== Overview ==
Operation Black Mamba was an operation carried out in December, AY 149, in which Kosmi, the special judicial body of the Krossen Court of Justice, hunted down and killed Altanos, a White Dragon of the continent of Wendigo. It was conducted at the covert request of King Ferrick of Levantia, and led by Kosmi commander Roderick Vance. While it was not the first instance of humans taking up arms against an Elder-tier being, the operation stands as a notable example of a limited force, using human-developed weaponry, tracking, isolating, and subduing a dragon of White lineage through deliberate planning.

== Background ==
Altanos had defeated the red dragon Igniventus in a personal conflict, but was left with a severe wound. He grew increasingly unstable in the time that followed, his condition worsening until it spiraled out of control. As the resulting damage mounted, King Ferrick of Levantia, after consulting his court, secretly commissioned Kosmi, under the Krossen Court of Justice, to deal with the matter.

== The Operation ==
Krossen was in the midst of civil war at the time, making even the transport of equipment to the dragon's territory a considerable challenge. The route in particular passed near a mountain held by Goeyu's forces, requiring a careful detour to avoid unnecessary conflict. Kosmi established four firing positions near the dragon's habitat, each equipped with a large crossbow. A total of seven KAA-51A1 bolts were allocated for the operation, distributed across the crossbows in a 2-2-2-1 pattern. With no possibility of resupply, every shot had to count. The operation began on December 2nd.

Altanos moved with a number of other White Dragons, so Kosmi's objective was not to confront the group as a whole but to separate Altanos from it. His mentally unstable state factored into how that separation was achieved.

Altanos was accompanied by two escort dragons. One was brought down when a KAA-51A1 bolt pierced its wing joint, and was finished off at close range by Kosmi's forces. The other broke off to raise the alarm and call for reinforcements. In the volley that followed, two bolts deflected off scales, but one struck the back and another the collarbone, costing Altanos his ability to fly and bringing him down.

With Altanos grounded, Kosmi's forces engaged him at close range. A follow-up shot aimed at a leg missed. The last remaining bolt, held at a separate firing position, was rushed to the crash site while Roderick Vance struck repeatedly at Altanos's neck with his greatsword. The engagement continued under mounting time pressure, with reinforcements expected before long.

The final KAA-51A1, once brought to the site, pierced through from the back and into the heart. In that opening, Roderick Vance severed the neck entirely, bringing the operation to its close. Kosmi's forces withdrew with most of their equipment, though several crossbows and a handful of bolts had to be left behind at the site.

== Aftermath ==
At the moment of Altanos's death, the Imprint he carried, "Sky Fall," passed to Roderick Vance, the nearest individual present. In the aftermath, divisions reportedly grew sharper within the White Dragon faction over how to regard humanity. Operation Black Mamba never became widely known, but word of it spread gradually through diplomatic and military channels between nations.
