== Overview ==
Sindibaad was the only person known to have been carried beyond the Southern Limit and returned alive. An ordinary sailor rather than an explorer, he came home at twenty-seven with a fortune so vast it settled his ship low in the water. That fortune became the foundation of the Sindibaad Consortium, the trading power that would come to dominate the known world's economy.

== Life ==

=== The Wreck ===
Sindibaad was born around AY 94 and took to the sea as an ordinary sailor. On one voyage, a disturbance among the Old Ones of the deep coincided with a violent storm; the ship was wrecked, and the captain was killed. Only the first mate and a handful of sailors survived, drifting beyond the Southern Limit. How they crossed it, what they found beyond it, and how they made their way back have never been told.

He returned on the 16th of April, AY 121, twenty-seven years old. The ship that brought him home carried so much treasure that its hull sat low, its gunwale nearly level with the water.

=== The Sindibaad Consortium ===
With his newfound fortune, Sindibaad founded what came to be called the Sindibaad Consortium. In name it was an alliance of merchants; in practice, for as long as he lived, its decisions were his alone. Its base, the port city of Basra, rose to become the center of the known world's economy, and the trade and financial networks he built formed a single economic order that crossed the borders of nations.

=== Acquaintance with Agnosti Lansmaier ===
Agnosti Lansmaier, a wealthy merchant of Caelmoor in Krossen, rivalled Sindibaad in fortune but had never crossed unknown waters himself. As the leading merchants of north and south, the two met on occasion for matters of trade, though the difference in age and Agnosti's evident admiration kept them from ever becoming close. Still, Agnosti had long held Sindibaad in high regard.

=== Later Years and Death ===
Sindibaad married but left no children. He died around AY 190, at roughly ninety-six years of age — an extraordinary lifespan by the standards of his time.

== Legacy ==
After Sindibaad's death, the Consortium that bore his name was no longer his alone. Its governance passed to its member merchants, who came to hold it in common through collective vote. Even so, the name Sindibaad remained — no longer only a man's name, but the name of the economic order he had built.

== Trivia ==
* It is rumored that Sindibaad owed his long life to some unknown herb found somewhere beyond the Southern Limit, though nothing has ever confirmed it.
