1. Overview
Mage is the broadest term for anyone who practices magic through the direct manipulation of their own mana via a magic circuit. What defines a Mage is not affiliation, Path, or method, but the physical basis of the practice: the mana drawn upon originates from, and passes through, the practitioner's own body.
Effects produced through an external mediating device, such as a Magic Stone, do constitute the practice of magic, but do not qualify their user as a Mage in the strict sense. This distinction holds even for individuals who possess no magic circuit and are otherwise incapable of casting; such individuals may still produce magical effects through such devices, yet remain outside the classification of Mage.
2. Branches
From this common root, several distinct branches have emerged. These branches are not mutually exclusive, and a practitioner who belongs to none of them, or whose specialization has not been established, may simply be referred to as a Mage without further qualification.
Wizard — affiliated with the Arcane Academy, engaged primarily in research, education, and theoretical study.
Sorcerer — draws upon communion with elemental spirits.
Witch — practices independently within the Witchcraft Path, outside institutional structures.
Warlock — specializes in combat magic, holding rank within a military structure.
Blood Mage — a hybrid branch blending elements of Witchcraft, Wizardry, and Sorcery, oriented toward the medical applications of magic.
3. Wizard Rank
Within the Arcane Academy, Wizards hold graduated rank according to scholarly achievement. Those who attain the highest tier become eligible for candidacy to the office of Grand Chancellor.
