Overview
Lonan Lansmaier was born in AY 137, the same year as Loud Bell Wonder, into House Lansmaier — one of Krossen's founding families and among the wealthiest in the western world. Though he received formal training in swordsmanship, he was never an exceptional swordsman; his gifts lay elsewhere, in the quiet authority of a man built to lead rather than to fight.
Appearance
Fair-skinned and blond, Lonan was not physically imposing but stood taller than most. There was an unmistakable air of privilege about him, tempered by a genuine effort to remain grounded among people less fortunate than himself.
Personality
Lonan held a deep loyalty to the crown and leaned toward moderation in his political views. He dreamed of following his father into the office of Assembly Speaker, though he felt the weight of his family's expectations. At the same time, some part of him longed for the kind of freedom Loud Bell Wonder lived by — a tension he never fully resolved.
Life
Lodamier
At twenty-one, Lonan was a university student living at an old lakeside estate outside Lodamier, purchased by his family and shared with Kostandi, a servant he had grown up alongside since childhood. It was here that a letter from his uncle changed the course of his life.
The Letter
The letter came from Agnosti Lansmaier, eldest of the five Lansmaier siblings and a man who commanded much of the northern Central Continent's economy. Its courier was a young man named Loud Bell Wonder — though Agnosti had no idea that the courier had, only days before, been among the mercenaries who ambushed his own carriage. Loud had turned against his own hired company mid-ambush, moved by the old man's defiance, and Agnosti had taken him in without ever learning the truth. Only Lonan would come to know it.
Rescue
Lonan, Loud, and Kostandi travelled together to Agnosti's estate. On his uncle's birthday, the four of them set out to hunt in the mountains northeast of Krossen — territory the Nornkar called home, driven from the mountain's stewardship generations ago and left to fester in resentment. The Nornkar seized their chance and abducted Agnosti, intending to bind him with a curse and bend him to their will. Lonan did not hesitate. Alongside Loud, the mountain guard, and Agnosti's own guards, he stormed the Nornkar's hideout and brought his uncle home before the curse could fully take hold.
The Road Beyond
In the aftermath, Loud set out to find a former comrade from his days in the Three-Year War. Against his family's wishes, Lonan followed. Kostandi, telling no one, followed in turn. The three travelled together through Tragon and Tilrestan, and — by some accounts — as far as the ruins of Yalta itself, before returning home to Krossen.
War
Lonan resumed his studies, until war broke out on the continent of Agmahal. Over his family's objections, he volunteered as an officer. Kostandi remained behind to look after the estate; Loud crossed the sea with him. Both returned alive.
A Connection to the Crown
At thirty-two, Lonan's path crossed with House Krossen itself, forging a lasting connection to the royal family that would shape the years to come.
