Overview

Manology is the academic discipline devoted to the systematic study of mana — its fundamental nature and the laws by which it operates. Magicology builds upon the findings of Manology and turns instead to the question of how mana is put to purposeful use; it could not exist without Manology, yet it constitutes an independent field of inquiry. Manology is organized into three principal branches — theoretical, applied, and engineering — and engineering is a full branch of the discipline in its own right.

Branches

Theoretical Manology investigates the foundational principles of mana. Mana Dynamics studies the Three Laws of Mana Dynamics. Mana Particle Theory and Mana Wave Theory are the branch's other principal fields.

Applied Manology examines mana as it behaves in concrete settings. Mana Conductivity Studies addresses the behavior of mana in high-conductivity media, including the concentration of mana within them. Mana Physiology addresses biological mana circuits and the action of mana within living organisms, including the physiological effects that arise when a circuit formula — a structure that configures a medium to conduct and retain mana — is applied to a living body.

Mana Engineering concerns the design and inscription of circuit formulas, together with the construction and operation of devices that employ them. It encompasses Mana Stone Engineering and Mana Mechanics.
